Tax reform: Selected issues

Published on 01 Aug 20 by "TAXATION IN AUSTRALIA" JOURNAL ARTICLE

This article builds on the introductory piece authored by Bob Deutsch and is complementary to the article authored by Robyn Jacobson, both of which are published in this issue of the journal. The article reminds readers of some history, addresses some selected issues in tax, including the problems in the current system, the design of those selected areas and some options to improve the system overall. The areas covered include GST, general business tax issues, tax administration and governance, and complexity. Notably, in these current articles, state taxes have not been addressed. That will be the subject of a separate article soon.
