This paper provides a practical analysis (with an emphasis on the SME environment) on the differing ways in which employees can be retained and rewarded by providing 'equity' as part of their remuneration from both employer and employee perspectives:

  • differing share plans - share/option plans, loan plans and phantom schemes
  • legal structure and implementation
  • suitability of different plans
  • employer / employee tax issues.

Jamie is a Partner in Kelly & Co.'s corporate and commercial section and has considerable experience in advising major listed and private corporations with all aspects of corporate and commercial activities. He has acted for Computershare Plan Managers, Australia's largest employee share plan management company, and its clients for many years in relation to the establishment of all types of employee share plans.
